The idea behind
Disabled Directory is to make life easier for disabled people and
their relatives. This website is not managed by a large faceless
corporation, or indeed, any company at all. I am an individual and
my father-in-law, John, is wheelchair bound - he suffers from Motor
Neurone Disease. As I am a professional web developer, John suggested
to me that a web site dedicated to helping other people, who are
in a similar position to himself, would be invaluable. We have seen
first hand the amount of time and effort required to try and provide
for him enjoyable days and evenings out, as well as holidays. Of
course, this problem is a common one for all people who are severely
disabled. We have, over the last few years, found it increasingly
difficult to locate places throughout the UK that can accommodate
disabled people who have demanding requirements. We have surfed
the Internet to try and find places, and even though many say they
have disabled facilities or they display the disabled friendly logo,
we still find we have to contact them to ask for specific information.
For example, a disabled toilet without a hoist is of little use
